What happens when a church stops praying?

January 31, 2013 by admin

What happens when a church stops praying?

During the week I came across this question and it made me think. How much do we value prayer in all that we do? Is prayer as important as the youth ministry, the Sunday service and other programs in the church?

I believe that if we are not praying then the best we can do as a church is the best we can do and that is not good enough. When we are drawn to our knees, the Holy Spirit does the heavy lifting. Prayer creates a culture and gives people a heart for seeing people led into relationships with Jesus Christ because when you get into God’s presence, you start to get His heartbeat. When we stop praying it takes the supernatural element out of what we’re doing and the church becomes a club. We focus on what God has done in the past and not what He will do in the future.

If we stop praying we’re on our own and I don’t think we’re going to get very far but when we start to pray, God beings to move. We become united as a church behind a common mission, God’s mission to bring people into a deepening relationship with Him. We also receive God’s guidance and His power is released for all to see. My Bible tells me that God is the same yesterday…today and forever…His Power is the same today as it was yesterday and He will be
just as powerful tomorrow…

The SAME God who broke Peter…John…Paul and Silas out of prison…the SAME God who closed the mouths of the lions for Daniel…the SAME God who took down the Giant as David faced his greatest fear…the SAME God who brought down the walls of Jericho…who parted the Red Sea…opened the eyes of the blind…made the lame to walk…the dumb to speak… AND YES who raised the dead…IS OUR GOD.

He has not changed…He is not growing old…His power is not running out…As a church lets be brought to pray privately and together. Join us on a Wednesday night at 7pm for one hour, to pray for the church. If you cannot make the prayer time, pray at home with our prayer newsletter. If you want a copy each week talk to Sharleen. The more people that pray for the church the more God will move and that’s when things get really exciting.

NEXT SUNDAY we are commencing a new series called Unstoppable. Think about it—What would happen if we truly embraced our mission to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Christ? We could become an unstoppable force.
