I believe that everyone has fears. Whether it’s the fear of falling. The fear of the dark. The fear of the words: Some Assembly Required. We’re all afraid of something.
If you look through the Bible, the number one message found some 366 times is, “Fear not.” It’s like there is one for every day and leap year included.
You would think it would be “Love one another” or “help each other” or something like that. But it’s not. It’s “Fear not.” God wants His people to not live in fear.
I love the words that God spoke to Joshua when he had taken over the leadership of the Israelites from Moses. I mean think about filling those shoes. But God says, “I command you be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
It’s very easy for us to read “Do not be afraid or discouraged” but it’s tough to live out. That’s what I want to talk about during this new series called Fearless – the fears that keep us from living life to its fullest. The fears that keep us from being fully alive. The fears that keep us from being the men and women that God created us to be.
If we don’t deal with some of these fears, what can happen? We can become riddled with anxiety and weighed down by life. God desires to help us, to equip us and empower us to rise above these fears and embrace life they way he intended us to live.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline” 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT)
